CHP assisting with traffic breaks – Use State Route 99 as alternate route

SACRAMENTO — Caltrans is alerting motorists about the overnight construction work for the SAC 5 Corridor Enhancement Project this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if needed.

Contractors are scheduled for pavement and striping work and the removal of 3 to 4 large signs near the median on I-5 from Sutterville Road to the U.S. 50 interchange.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will assist with traffic breaks. (about 20-minutes for each)

Caltrans urges motorists to use State Route 99 as an alternate route to navigate around the work zone and to plan for additional travel time.

SCHEDULE:

8 p.m. to 5 a.m., on Friday Aug. 6, Saturday Aug. 7 (Sunday Aug. 8, if needed)

LOCATION:

North- and southbound I-5 from Sutterville Rd to U.S. Hwy 50 will be reduced to two lanes 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and to one lane from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

RAMPS CLOSED:

EB and WB U.S. Hwy 50 connector ramps to southbound I-5

Sutterville Rd on-ramp to northbound I-5

Nearby residents can expect loud construction type noise and commercial truck back-up beeping noises during day and nighttime hours. The contractor is scheduled to perform paving and striping.

The ongoing work has added sound walls in 2020 and is scheduled to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway, build 23 miles of carpool lanes, and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems along this corridor.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

This project includes $48.3 million in funding from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. For more information about other transportation projects funded by SB 1, visit www.rebuildingca.ca.gov.

For more information on this project text “FixSac5” to 74121 or visit www.FixSac5.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @FixSac5. Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and other construction related issues.
