SACRAMENTO — Caltrans is continuing a series of partial highway closures for the SAC 5 Corridor Enhancement Project this weekend.

Work on northbound Interstate 5 will temporarily close two lanes this weekend from Friday night into early Monday morning. Signed detours will be in place, but Caltrans urges motorists to use State Route 99 as an alternate route to navigate around the work zone and to plan for additional travel time.

SCHEDULE:

9 p.m. Friday, July 23 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 26

LOCATION:

Northbound I-5 from south of Florin Rd to Gloria Drive (two lanes will remain open). See map attached.

RAMPS CLOSED:

Westbound Pocket Rd on-ramp to NB I-5 and NB Florin Rd on- and off-ramps to NB I-5.

DETOUR:

From Florin Rd to NB I-5. Use the SB Los Angeles I-5 to Pocket/ Meadowview Rd exit (Exit 512) to turn around back onto northbound I-5.

From NB I-5 to Florin Rd (Exit 513). Continue NB on I-5 to Seamas Ave/ Fruitridge Rd (Exit 515) Stay left and take on-ramp to SB I-5 Los Angeles to Florin Rd (Exit 513)

From WB Pocket Rd use SB I-5 to Cosumnes Blvd off-ramp (Exit 510) back to NB I-5

Nearby residents can expect loud construction type noise and commercial truck back-up beeping noises during day and nighttime hours. The contractor is scheduled to perform paving and striping.

The ongoing work has added sound walls in 2020 and is scheduled to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway, build 23 miles of carpool lanes, and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems along this corridor.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

This project includes $48.3 million in funding from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. For more information about other transportation projects funded by SB 1, visit www.rebuildingca.ca.gov.

For more information on this project text “FixSac5” to 74121 or visit www.FixSac5.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @FixSac5. Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.”

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and other construction related issues. Check out Caltrans’ “Caltrans QuickMap” for current road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the free QuickMap app on the App Store or Google Play.
