Nightly Closures Postponed for I-5 Project in Sacramento County

Casilada Bike and Pedestrian Overcrossing Demolition Postponed

Sacramento County — Due to the wet conditions and a chance of more rain, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is postponing the lane closures on Interstate 5 at Casilada Way (north of Seamas Avenue) in Sacramento County.

Crews were originally scheduled to demolish and remove the Casilada bike and pedestrian overcrossing (POC) on Friday, February 19th and Saturday, February 20th. The work is necessary in order to construct a new bike and pedestrian overcrossing. Demolition of the existing and outdated POC will be rescheduled for a later date.

The work is part of the $370 million FixSac5 Project, which includes rehabilitating 67-lane miles of roadway, building 23 miles of carpool lanes, adding sound walls and improving the existing electrical and drainage systems.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 MPH and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text ‘FixSac5’ to 81257 or visit www.FixSac5.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @FixSac5.

When weather permits, crews work in the construction zone during the day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues. Check out Caltrans’ “Caltrans QuickMap” for current road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the free QuickMap app on the App Store or Google Play. Motorists also can call the California Highway Information Network automated phone service at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
