FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Extended Weekend Lane Closures Continue for I-5

Motorists Urged to use State Route 99 as Alternate Route

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is planning a series of Extended Weekend partial highway closures on Interstate 5 for the SAC 5 Corridor Enhancement Project through July.

The weekend construction work involves closing two lanes for northbound and southbound directions from Friday night through early Monday morning.

Caltrans urges motorists traveling along I-5 to expect delays and plan for additional travel time. Caltrans suggests using State Route 99 as an alternative. A contractor is scheduled for grinding, repaving and striping on the mainline.

The around the clock construction work will require heavy equipment and commercial trucking. Nearby residents can expect loud jack hammer type and commerical truck back-up beeping noises during day and nighttime hours.

SCHEDULE:

  • From 9 p.m. Friday, June 26 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 29.

LOCATIONS:

  • NB I-5 will be limited to two lanes from Gloria Drive to 43rd and 35th
  • SB I-5 will be limited two lanes from Florin Road to 56th and 43rd Avenues

RAMP CLOSURES:

  •  None scheduled.

The ongoing work is part of a $370 million project to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway and build 23 miles of carpool lanes, add additional sound walls and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text ‘FixSac5’ to 58632 or visit www.FixSac5.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @FixSac5.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
